With My SEAT App, you can purchase data plans from Cubic, a third-party provider. When a data plan is purchased, you will be able to track its current status, including information about the acquired amount of data, the data consumed, and the data remaining.
Primary users can buy data plans directly through the in-car store as long as the vehicle has a NaviSystem included. Otherwise, users can buy data plans with the use of the Cubic Web Shop or by using the SEAT app.
The purchased data plans can also be used for APN2 services, such as online media, internet radio.
The data plan feature is extremely useful, as customers no longer have to use a Wi-Fi hotspot from their smartphone to share data with the infotainment system of the vehicle. When a data plan is purchased, the vehicle is going to have its own network, and all of the connected user’s management will be done by the infotainment system with the use of a QR code.
This will come with a lot of benefits. Since there is no need for an additional SIM card (the vehicle has a SIM card built-in), network access is going to be easy and comfortable. The user will have access to the NaviSystem and streaming services, using the acquired data. All of the prices are completely transparent and there are no roaming charges applied.
All the data that is needed to use the SEAT Connect services will be provided by both SEAT and the customer. The traffic can be routed through different access points (APNs) of the SIM card in the vehicle, so the data usage can be split between SEAT and the customer.
There are 2 APNs used in SEAT:
- APN1: Data consumption provided by the SEAT: safety & service, remote access (vehicle data), online infotainment for online navigation and voice
- APN2: Data consumption provided by the customer: online infotainment for internet radio.
APN1 is included with the Activation with Pairing Code SEAT Connect commercial package.
If you want to provide additional data to use the APN2, you have two options. You can buy one of the Cubic data plans that are available, or you can use a smartphone as a mobile hotspot and share data with the vehicle. This way, once you turn on the hotspot on your mobile device, you can go to the infotainment system’s settings and connect to the wi-fi.
Here is a list of the countries where the customer can buy and use the data plans:
